New Jersey is home to one of the most provider-dense dental markets on the East Coast, yet access gaps persist across the state. Understanding that context matters when choosing where to receive care.
According to the New Jersey Department of Health's Behavioral Risk Factor Survey (2022), 67.6% of NJ adults reported visiting a dentist or dental clinic in the past year, placing the state above the national average but still leaving a significant share of the adult population without regular care. That gap widens significantly along racial and socioeconomic lines: Hispanic adults report significantly lower dental visit rates (~58–60%) compared to White adults (~70–75%).
Ocean County, home to Toms River, has hundreds of dental specialists listed on platforms such as Healthgrades, including practitioners affiliated with Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Monmouth Medical Center, and CentraState Medical Center. The Monmouth-Ocean County Dental Society, a component of the American Dental Association, has hundreds of dentists across the region.
Despite a dense provider network, the state has persistent structural challenges. New Jersey meets only two of eight children's oral health benchmarks tracked by the Pew Charitable Trusts, and roughly 15% of residents receive fluoridated water, compared with the national average of 75%. The gap between available providers and realized access reflects barriers related to cost, insurance, and awareness that affect patients statewide.
At the national level, one in five adults aged 20 to 64 has untreated cavities, according to CDC BRFSS data published in 2024. Among working-age adults, 22.8% lack dental insurance, limiting access to preventive and restorative care. For patients navigating these barriers, choosing a clinic with the right combination of clinical capability, technology investment, and transparent pricing structures matters more than it might first appear.

Table 1: Key Dental Care Indicators for New Jersey
Admirise Digital Agency designed this study to give patients a reliable, comparable view of dental clinic quality across New Jersey. The framework mirrors the approach used in Admirise's previous independent healthcare evaluations: evidence-only scoring, no paid placements, and a deterministic rubric applied identically to each clinic.
The research team began by cataloging dental clinics serving patients across northern and central New Jersey, with a focus on Toms River, the broader Ocean County area, Bergen County, and adjacent markets. The initial pool covered clinics discoverable through primary organic search, Google Maps listings, and local directory sources.
From that pool, 14 clinics cleared the threshold for full evaluation: they operated active websites with sufficient clinical content for five-dimensional scoring. Clinics with websites that were offline, inaccessible, or had insufficient public-facing content were excluded from the scored set.
Each clinic was assessed across five weighted dimensions. Scores derive entirely from publicly available evidence captured from clinic websites, Google Maps profiles, and cited source pages. No clinic was contacted or informed of the evaluation.
| Dimension | Max Points | Assessment Focus | Key Indicators |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clinical Excellence | 30 | Provider credentials, specialization, outcomes | Dentist credentials, specialty markers, accreditation cues, treatment range |
| Infrastructure & Technology | 20 | Facilities, equipment, digital capabilities | CAD/CAM, 3D imaging, digital smile design, workflow indicators |
| Patient Experience | 20 | Service quality, communication, support | Review volume, multilingual support, coordinators, follow-up policies |
| Innovation & Specialization | 15 | Advanced procedures, unique positioning | Unique packages, differentiators, specialty service mix |
| International Standards | 15 | Accreditations, compliance, post-treatment | International certifications, warranty policies, follow-up protocols |
Table 2: Five-Dimension Evaluation Framework
Raw composite scores rank AP&P Dental first, followed by Coastal Oral Surgery. The third through fifth positions are separated by fewer than 2 points in the standard framework, making dimension-level analysis a more instructive guide for most patients than aggregate totals alone.
For this publication, Admirise applied an editorial technology-and-innovation weighting, doubling the Infrastructure & Technology and Innovation & Specialization dimensions, to reflect what patient research and NJ market data suggest drives clinic selection for complex treatments. Under this weighting, Advanced Smile Dentistry moves to third position, reflecting its consistently strong scores in precisely the areas most relevant to patients seeking implant surgery, full-arch restoration, and cosmetic treatment.
This weighting method is disclosed fully. The raw dimension scores for all 14 clinics are available in the original Admirise research report.

Location: Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ | Specialties: Implantology, Cosmetic, Restorative, Orthodontics | Team: 7 visible clinicians
AP&P Dental earned the top composite score in this study across both the standard and technology-weighted frameworks. It leads all 14 clinics in Clinical Excellence (27.0/30) and ties for the highest Infrastructure & Technology score at 12.4/20, the only clinic to reach that level, reflecting three distinct equipment or workflow technology indicators across its site pages. Its team of seven named clinicians covers implantology, cosmetic dentistry, restorative work, and orthodontics, with two separate accreditation signals confirmed in the evidence capture.
The clinic operates as a specialist dual-focus practice combining advanced prosthodontics and periodontics under one roof, a structural advantage that reduces referral friction for patients needing multi-phase treatment. The website supports a before-and-after gallery, a virtual tour, and a dedicated technology page, each contributing evidence to its infrastructure score.
| Dimension | Score | % Max | Evidence Signals |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clinical Excellence | 27 / 30 | 90% | 7 visible clinicians, 4 specialty markers, 2 accreditation cues |

Coastal Oral Surgery ranks second in both ranking frameworks, scoring 26.7/30 for Clinical Excellence and tying AP&P Dental for the most specialty markers in the study at 5. The practice fields a four-surgeon team, including Dr. John P. Soliman, Dr. Daniel Winston, Dr. Alaina Harrington, and Dr. Radislav Meylikh, each with visible credentials across the practice website and social channels.
With 70 documented review signals and a warranty or follow-up support marker confirmed in the evidence capture, Coastal demonstrates a stronger patient experience infrastructure than most comparable practices in the study. Its All-on-4 implant program, bone grafting services, wisdom tooth removal, and facial trauma surgery positions it among the most procedure-diverse practices evaluated.
"I was referred for a cracked molar extraction, which was a bit complicated, but Dr. Meylikh and the staff were incredibly caring and skilled. They made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in. Excellent service!"

Locations: Toms River, NJ & Woodcliff Lake, NJ | Specialties: Orthodontics, Implantology, Cosmetic, Restorative | Lead Clinician: Dr. David Basar
Advanced Smile Dentistry ranks third on the technology-weighted framework because its evidence signals align most directly with what patients seeking complex restorative and implant care actually need from a provider: proven digital imaging capability, a clearly structured implant treatment system, and a multi-location presence that extends access across two New Jersey markets.
The practice scored 10.6/20 on Infrastructure & Technology, second in the entire study, and above both clinics ranked fourth and fifth. It recorded 10.0/15 for Innovation & Specialization, tied for the highest score in that dimension with the #1-ranked AP&P Dental. Combined, those two dimensions produce a tech+innovation sub-score of 20.6 out of 35, the highest of any clinic outside the top two.
Advanced Smile's free 3D scan consultation program, accessible at both the Toms River and Woodcliff Lake locations, removes a common barrier that deters patients from pursuing implant evaluations. The practice's Veterans Program demonstrates community engagement and patient-centered programming beyond standard clinical delivery. Dr. David Basar leads the clinical team, with additional clinician references visible across the practice site.
Five distinct specialty markers confirmed in the evidence capture include orthodontics, implantology, cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry, and implant-supported restorations. Four documented clinical differentiators were identified: full-mouth dental implants, the implant system framework, implant financing, and the free 3D scan program, each reflecting a structural investment in the implant patient journey.
"I had four implants done by Doctor Basar, and it's the best thing I've ever done for myself."

Patients searching for dental implants in Toms River, full-mouth restoration, or technology-supported cosmetic treatment will find Advanced Smile's infrastructure and specialty mix difficult to match elsewhere in the study.
Location: Maywood, NJ (Bergen County) | Lead Clinician: Dr. John Mady, DDS | Reviews: 69
Spring Valley Dental Care, led by Dr. John Mady in Maywood, Bergen County, earned the highest Patient Experience score of any clinic in the study at 8.1/20. That signal comes from a confirmed combination of review volume (69 documented reviews), at least one patient coordinator reference, and at least one treatment package indicator, a triad no other clinic in the top five fully achieves.
The practice offers All-on-X full-arch implants, general dentistry, cosmetic procedures, and a smile gallery that documents case outcomes. A dedicated features and technology page covers equipment and workflow tools, and contributes one confirmed equipment indicator to the Infrastructure score. Five clinical differentiators were identified in the evidence capture, matching Coastal Oral Surgery and Palisades for the second-highest Innovation count in the study.
Dr. Mady's practice positions itself as the "Spring Valley Difference," a patient-experience brand that suggests an intentional investment in how patients feel throughout treatment, not just what they receive. For patients whose primary concerns are communication, coordination, and continuity of care, Spring Valley presents a strong case.

Location: Dumont, NJ (Bergen County) | Lead Clinician: Dr. Yael Kryzman, Top Dentist Honoree | Specialties: Orthodontics, Implantology, Cosmetic, Restorative
Palisades Dental Care in Dumont rounds out the top five with the third-highest Clinical Excellence score in the study at 25.5/30, driven by 11 documented clinician references, the second-largest clinical team in the dataset, and two accreditation signals. Dr. Yael Kryzman is referenced as a recognized "Top Dentist" honoree, an external credential signal that contributed to the academic credentials strength marker.
The practice covers orthodontics (including Invisalign), implantology, cosmetic dentistry, restorative procedures, root canal treatment, and a pediatric smile makeover program, the broadest general specialty mix in the study at five confirmed markers. The practice holds two separate accreditation cues, matching the top two clinics in that specific signal.
Where Palisades trails other top-five clinics is in Infrastructure & Technology. The evidence capture returned zero confirmed equipment or workflow indicators, producing a 7.0/20 score in that dimension. For patients whose treatment requires significant technology infrastructure, such as guided implant surgery or digital full-arch planning, that gap is worth factoring into the decision.
